SIMPLE YET ELEGANT HOME IMPROVEMENTS – PART 2

Written by crizlai on Nov 29th, 2008 | Filed under: bedroom, decor, home, lifestyle, living, product, rant, tips

I had written earlier in Home Improvements Part 1 on how to get the best out of limited space in your new home. Let’s look more onto those areas for relaxation today such as your sitting room. Other than the normal space saving sofas which you could easily source from those furniture shops around your town, try finding one single that has the multi-purpose usage to your preferences. For example, let’s look at one such furniture as shown below. Not only will you be able to use that as your reading chair, you can even adjust your body to the high tech body curve built of the chair for some siesta.

If you have a patio or sliding door for some sunlight to shine in, you can even set up your own indoor sundeck chair. I’m sure you would want something that looks simple and yet elegant. Try finding something that is real artistic and won’t get out of date. Would you like this one?

Where else do you think you relax most? Would that be your own cubicle in the most private part of your house? Bingo! That’s right! It’s your bathroom where you deal with most of your nature’s business. I have seen bathrooms with so much wastage of space before in large mansion. Is that a necessity? Well, those could well meant for the rich and famous but as commoners that would not be a must have. With limited space in a bathroom, even installing a basin, a toilet bowl with a bathing area would be such a headache. Thanks to the innovation of a genius, nothing would be impossible now. Maybe I would try this too. It’s too cool to resist!

MYBROADBAND WIFI FOR PENANGITES

Penang and Kulim Pilot Broadband Project was one of the ongoing projects under the National Broadband Plan. MyBroadband WiFi is an initiative by the Ministry of Energy, Water, and Communication to increase the accessibility of Internet through the usage of broadband in Malaysia. This initiative will also enable the public to access key government’s web presences, and e-government services at any of the WiFi locations.

MyBroadband WiFi is implemented through a smart collaboration between the government, the community, and the Internet Service Providers (ISPs), whereby each party would contribute different resources to the initiative. Presently, we can see that ISP companies such as TM, PenangFon and Jaring were heavily involved in the test piloting of this project.

Incorporated as part of the Penang i-Land 2010 Masterplan, the project is designed to provide the necessary infrastructure to realize Penang as a fully connected state by 2010 with reliable, fast broadband and affordable network infrastructure. A few strategic districts such as Batu Ferringhi, Batu Maung, Bayan Baru, Bayan Lepas, Bukit Jambul, Bukit Mertajam, Gelugor, Gurney, Seberang Jaya, Sungai Ara, Sungai Dua, Sungai Nibong, Tanjung Bunga, Tanjung Tokong and Teluk Bahang have already had the service booted up. More districts in Penang as well as Kedah would be up soon.

If you would like to try out the FREE WIFI SERVICE, do register yourself an account at http://www.mybroadband.gov.my to be eligible to surf for free. If you would like to be a provider to make Penang’s dream to be fully connected by 2010, just log in the service provider form to sign yourself up.

MY BAR COUNTER SETTING

Setting up certain areas of your home could sometimes be a dilemma, especially when choosing the right colors to blend in with the surrounding. I have this special corner in my living room which I thought of having a mini bar corner. I want the corner to be lively instead of the normal dull and woody feeling that most mini bars have.

There are so many things that I have to look into such as the suitable wall colors, furniture and fittings, bar counter, cabinets, mini bar cooler and also the bar faucets. But first I would have to look into the right combination of colors that would set the mood right. What could those be? Maybe I shall study some of the colors in depth before deciding what to do next.

RED – Energy, passion, and boost appetite
ORANGE – Boost appetite
YELLOW – Speed metabolism and incite concentration and memory
GREEN – Calming and peaceful
BLUE – Trust, relaxing and space
VIOLET – Healing and romantic
WHITE – Purity, life and neutral
PINK – Soothing and seductive

Hmm… There are so many colors and yet I’m lost for the right combination. Shades of each color might work but then it would be rather boring. Since the mini bar corner is going to be in the living room, I was thinking of combining Violet, Light Blue and some shades of Pink for that corner. Do you think that it would make the room feel spacious enough for relaxation with some romantic moments with my family?

OPENING A DELI OUTLET IN TOWN

HEALTHYFRANCHISE

After trying out so many types of food and creating my own fusion for some, I was thinking of opening a deli outlet in town. After all, everyone loves food and food brings people together. That was also how I met up with some great friends who had the same idea as me to open up a Deli in town.

We needed something new that would stand out from the crowd instead of fighting over the market share which some giant food restaurants had already established well. We started to research the food market as well as brainstorming for new ideas and found something real interesting. We found a large percentage of consumers, especially those in their teens and early twenties, love fast food. On top of that, there was also a large number who were healthy conscious about their food intake.

We thought why not we combine these two groups of people and come out with a Deli that would please both parties? That would be great right? What do you think of naturally raised hormone and antibiotic free Steakburger and Low Fat Organic Milkshakes? I’m sure most people would accept the diets of a lesser fat, calories and cholesterol meal, on top of the higher quality natural and organic ingredients used. Most importantly, the meals would be of great taste with a healthy label shown behind each item served.

Finally, we had decided to stick to the concept of healthy fast food but we also found some challenges here. How long would it take us to establish ourselves in the market with a name that people had never heard of? Won’t it be easier if we were to apply for a food franchise business from a brand that people had already known elsewhere? After much thinking, we had decided to go for the latter as it would not incur much investment and there would be supports and guidelines for a more systematic and successful ways of handling a new business for entrepreneurs like us.

WHY DO COUPLES QUARREL?

Written by crizlai on Oct 22nd, 2008 | Filed under: emotion, family, living, marriage

There are just hundreds of reasons why we were in the quarrelling mode at times and would not look deeply into the main core of the reasons and seek solutions. Let us discuss on two of the more prominent reasons that would destruct a married life.

MONEY

“Money is the root of evil”. That’s what we have known ever since we were born into this world. But is it true when it involves in relationship? Let’s see some of the scenarios. Do you combine your total earnings into one general account for the household expenditure or do you have separate accounts? Some might even consider both. What would yours be?

It may work fine at the initial stage of a marriage to have joint account to push the “family as one” off the ground. After years of marriage, things might not be as pleasant anymore. There would be disputes about how much the other would spent on their personal usage and how much the other truly contributed towards the family expenditure.

There ought to be some agreements at the initial stage of each marriage. Ideally, it would be better to have two accounts for each individual. One would be the joint account and the other would be the personal account. Both must agree to set certain amount or percentage of their income into their joint account while leaving some for their personal usage. This might just work well if only both agree to do so without being calculative on how much the other person is earning.

There are cases where A is earning X amount while B is earning just 40% of X amount. Quarrels would spark when B is in need of funds while A is still holding on to the “extras” for his or her own usage. As I have mentioned earlier, there SHOULD BE AN AGREEMENT at the initial stage. IF A has the “extras”, he or she should put that into the “buffer” account in case there are any unforeseen emergencies in the case of B. After all, they are always sacrifices for the better of any relationship

EMOTIONS AND NEEDS

“It takes two hands to make a clap”. Well, it does in a relationship. Humans are social animals as they would always need love, company, attention, fulfillment of their needs and so on. If two were to lie down together, they keep both warm, but if one decide to stay at one side of the bed, how could both have warmth? This scenario happened in many broken down marriages.

Marriage life is a two way communication process in order to maintain a harmonious relationship. There is no such thing as a one-way love although it may happen in a certain stage of a relationship. Sooner or later, the party would be burnt out. Romantic spirit should always be there. Everyone would like to love and be loved. Even a little flirtation between spouses would make the relationship more interesting. No one would like a monotonous marriage where both are doing their personal things without any communication all the time. Would you?

In some cases, marriage life ended up as companionship rather than as husband and wife. One party would be so busy with the business that coming home would be just for the sake of having a company in bed. One might just want to have some surprise fun but the other would just give excuses for being exhausted. As time pass by, the lack of tenderness, fulfillment of needs and participation of a fairy-tale marriage would just seep away slowly but surely.

Would you want to fill your dreams by being selfish in your own wants and starve the needs of the other in a relationship? Just ask yourself truthfully what have you been doing in your married life? Are you still a lover or have you merely turned yourself into a breaker?
